HELLO —

My name is Sophie Hastings, and I’m a portrait and wedding photographer based out of Minneapolis.

I have been photographing since I received my first digital point-and-shoot, somewhere around age 13 (I’m now 26!) As of May 2022, I made a long-awaited job transition, and am honored to now be serving couples, families, and businesses as a full-time photographer. My current focus is on weddings and portraiture, though I am always open to projects that may expand my thinking or ignite creativity in new ways.

In my photo work, I am most interested in documenting honest moments — allowing people and spaces to exist as they are, recounting those stories through my images. Many moments as a portrait photographer require the ability to offer guidance, of course (I won’t leave you hanging, my friends), but I particularly love what I find when the moment allows me to be a true documentarian, a fly-on-the-wall. I am taken by textures, colors, moments of beauty, of light, humor, connection.. scenes in the walking-by that raise curiosity or elicit feeling.

Beyond the visual, and most importantly, I hope that the humans I photograph feel seen and respected. I want the experience of being photographed to be as joyful and memorable as the photos themselves — for the quirk and charm that characterize you to be highlighted in artful ways through my images.

My current career focus is photography, but I will always love the tactile practice of fine art, as well. I plan to continue this practice in various forms in my slower photo seasons, selling my work at local MN boutiques. I love seeing how art + photo inform and inspire one another in my work as a whole.

If you have any questions, project ideas, or photo inquiries, I’d love to connect!!! Feel free to reach out here :-)
